Although cryptocurrency and NFTs are still considered new and far from mainstream, they’re catching on fast, thanks to companies like Rolling Stone Magazine and the massive NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). The BAYC has quickly fashioned an empire out of something as simple as artfully drawn pictures of bored apes in various states of aesthetics and apparel.
They’ve recently partnered with Rolling Stone Magazine to spread the word about their enterprise and sing the praises of NFTs to all who will listen. The magazine will feature a limited-edition cover and more than twenty pages of artistic designs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club, in addition to “behind-the-scenes” and early-stage information about the club, which was originally envisioned as the “swamp club.” The magazine cover will be sold at auction later this year to eager bidders vying for their chance to obtain a part of crypto and digital-collectible history. The collaboration between Rolling Stone and BAYC also features other artists from the NFT community.
Driving increased interest in this particular issue is the limited number of copies that will be printed. Rolling Stone announced they will only print twenty-five hundred copies of the issue, meaning those eager to buy the magazine will have to hurry. The NFTs on the cover will also be in limited supply and experts and outsiders alike are curious to see just how well, how fast, and for how much they will sell.
The magazine covers will be of various apes in various costumes, each sporting a different look on its face. The event and collaboration is designed to coincide with an event known as “APE FEST 2021” which is a series of celebrations and informational gatherings in New York. The event will be primarily comprised of Bored Ape Yacht Club holders and enthusiasts and represents a way for proponents to meet up and socialize, in the hopes of both boosting the popularity of the club and spreading its message of NFT-positivity and excitement to the masses.
Bored Ape Yacht Club has been one of the preeminent sellers of NFTs and has been working to drive the market toward mainstream acceptance, as they dominate volume rankings and general popularity within the community. The rarer the ape, the more valuable the ape; two of the most valuable in the collection so far remain an ape with psychedelic fur and an ape made up to look like a Terminator. One of the most valuable apes as of yet sold at auction for an astonishing three and a half million dollars.
