It isn’t too often that you net a whopping $1.5M profit on the sale of any asset. For an NFT collector who held onto a rare Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) ‘Terminator Ape’, this dream has become a reality.
Developer and researcher Blockpointlabs has held onto this rarity since May 1st, which was when the collection minted. They made what would have been considered an expensive purchase at the time, grabbing the ‘Terminator Ape’ for 5 ETH, which was roughly $14,750 USD at the time of sale. Ethereum has since increased in value, only adding to Blockpointlabs profit margin.
The seller diamond-handed the ‘Terminator Ape’ as the BAYC collection experienced an incredible run during the past 5 months. The floor is currently sitting at 34Ξ, making the cheapest Bored Ape $128,362 USD.
Despite the risk of spending 5 ETH on a new NFT project, the combination of rare traits made the purchase a well-calculated risk. ‘Robot Fur’, and ‘Cyborg Eyes’ are extremely rare in the BAYC collection (there are only 4 other apes with these traits), making the ‘Terminator Ape’ well worth the price.
This highly sought after Bored Ape NFT was originally purchased for 5 ETH and then sold five months later for 425 ETH – a profit of $1.5M
‘Thematic Apes’, items in the collection which have complementary traits that make up an obvious theme or character, are beginning to stand out as high-valued commodities.
The rising popularity of these ‘Thematic Apes’, has led to a secondary market where buyers are seeking apes with different themes. These include the ‘Stuntman’ and the ‘Party Ape’.
What makes these ‘Thematic Apes’ so appealing? The NFT community says that it has to do with its allure and the fact that these different thematic characters seem to act as though they are pre-existing personalities.
This, and of course, the massive sale of the ‘Terminator Ape’ has led to an increase in their popularity. There is now an incredible demand for these characters amongst NFT buyers and sellers.
The talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA) are now the owners of one of the most sought after ‘Thematic Apes’ in the NFT community.
With its recent announcement of a utility token, and its spotlight at a recent Christie’s auction, Bored Yacht Ape Club has only helped solidify its notoriety in the NFT community as a blue-chip project.
