Mega Meta Partnership: LEGO & Fortnite Creator Join Forces To Build Their Meta Space

Big-time meta partnerships are happening. Companies are partnering together to take on joint projects in the meta space, and the matchups keep getting bigger. The latest partnership is between the LEGO Group and Fortnite’s creator Epic Games, two heavyweights in their respective industries.

Legendary LEGO

For 90 years, the LEGO Group has inspired generations of children through the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO brick, which remains the core of its business.

In recent years, the LEGO Group has expanded its scope and become a leader in defining safe digital play experiences for children including the development of an industry-standard Digital Child Safety Policy with UNICEF and the 2016 launch of the first fully live moderated social app for children.

Frontrunning Fortnite

While it’s best known as the company behind Fortnite, Epic Games is a video game powerhouse. The company developed Unreal Engine, one of the biggest platforms used to create super-realistic games.

Fortnite has been one of the hottest video games for the past several years. Fortnite’s “Battle Royale” style lets up to 100 players fight it out to be the last one standing. The company has recently been branching out into other forms of entertainment, hosting music concerts from today’s top artists and more.

The metaverse

The metaverse is seen as a network of virtual spaces that will open up new ways for people to connect online. As the metaverse evolves, it is reshaping how people meet, play, work, learn and interact in a virtual, 3D world where digital ownership reigns supreme.

LEGO Group + Epic Games

The LEGO Group and Epic Games recently announced they are entering a long-term partnership to shape the future of the metaverse. The two companies will team up to build an immersive, creatively inspiring, and engaging digital experience for kids of all ages to enjoy together.

Epic Games and LEGO Group are pledging to create extensive safeguards around their planned virtual world to make it safe and fun for children and families.

Looking ahead

This newly formed partnership joins numerous other efforts from companies looking to build their own versions of the metaverse.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has been focused on building the metaverse and last year announced a $50M fund dedicated toward investment in research to ensure the metaverse is built responsibly.

Pokémon Go creator, Niantic, has also detailed its plans to build what it calls the “real-world metaverse.”

As for the LEGO Group and Epic Games partnership, the launch date and just what its metaverse entails is still unknown.

What we do know, is that these two companies will do their best to ensure the digital spaces they develop are safe, especially for kids.
