If you’re a Twitter user, you may have noticed that the social media network has recently introduced a new feature: Twitter Blue.
Along with Twitter Blue comes the ability for subscribers in the US (at least for now) to write longer tweets. Now, instead of cramming your thoughts into 280 characters, you can post up to 4,000 characters in a single tweet.
The flexibility of adding more characters allows you to share more information with your followers and truly get your message across. This new change also applies to Quote Tweets where you share another Twitter user’s original tweet as well as replies. Keep in mind that adding things like images, video, and creating polls is still doable with these longer tweets despite the thousands of additional characters taking up all that space!
Whether you’re sharing news articles, blog posts, or personal stories, you can do it all without running out of space. This makes Twitter a more effective platform for sharing information and connecting with others.
How much does Twitter Blue cost?
Twitter Blue is a paid service that allows you to customize and enhance your Twitter experience. Twitter Blue subscriptions cost $8 USD per month if you signup using the web version or $84 USD per year. If you signup using the mobile app – whether that be on an iPhone or Android – the cost is $11 USD per month with no annual option available at this time. Other notable features available to Twitter Blue subscribers:
In addition to the newly announced longer tweets, Twitter blue has several other features that will help you get more out of your time on Twitter. Here are a few that stand out IMO:
- Edit Tweet: Finally, Twitter has rolled out an Edit Tweet feature! With this feature, you can edit a tweet within a 30-minute window. Forgot to tag someone? Make an embarrassing spelling mistake? No biggie. You can now fix it.
- Themes: Add a little personality to your Twitter experience by choosing from a selection of different color options.
- Custom App Icons: In addition to Themes, you can customize the way your app looks by using different app icons.
- Verification Checkmark: With your Twitter Blue subscription, you will receive a blue checkmark next to your display name provided you are approved which can take several days after paying for your subscription. It’s important to keep in mind that making changes to your username (ie, @NFTSweep) or your profile picture will result in the removal of your checkmark as the Twitter team will need to review your changes and re-approve your account.
- Longer Videos: If short-form videos aren’t your thing, that’s ok. You can post videos on Twitter that are up to 60 minutes long. Plus, you can post them in their full 1080p glory.
- Twitter Spaces Tab: If you haven’t explored and taken part in Twitter Spaces, you’re missing out! This audio experience is comparable to a live podcast or radio show. Often filled with like-minded folks hosting informative and entertaining conversations, it’s something to check out. The Twitter Spaces tab makes it easy and convenient to discover new Twitter Spaces and hosts that you’re likely to be interested in.
- Top Articles: Find the top content being shared by people you follow and people they follow to keep tabs on the most talked about subjects on Twitter. Consider it a personal newsfeed where you can quickly view the latest articles.
- Bookmark Folders: Create custom folders to save tweets that matter most to you, so they’re easy to find at a later time.
- NFT Profile Pictures: Make your Twitter account stand out by using an NFT profile picture. Connect your crypto wallet to your Twitter account and select an NFT from your most prized collection.
Features coming soon to Twitter Blue
While the above features are impressive and useful depending on how you’re using the platform, there is still more to come. Twitter has listed the following features as things that we can expect as part of the subscription in the near future:
- Half the Ads: expect to see 50% fewer ads in your timeline.
- Priority: Verified users will receive priority and can expect their tweets to appear at the top of replies, mentions, and search.
- Early Access: Through Twitter Blue Labs, gain early access to new features.
Final Thoughts
The long Tweet feature, available as part of Twitter Blue, is a big step forward for users who have felt limited by the 280-character limit. Users are able to provide more context and information, making it easier for others to understand their message and reducing the risk of misinterpretation. Twitter has come a long way since it was first launched in 2006. Since then, the platform has grown to over 330 million active users sharing billions of tweets daily. We’re excited to see what Twitter has in store for the future.
